September 5, 2008- The Comets took part in a four-team tournament at Freed-Hardemen over the weekend. On Friday afternoon the Comets lost a hard fought battle 2-0 against a very talented Bryan College team. Bryan opened up the scoring 12 minutes in on head ball taken from a free kick deep in the Comets half. Crichton managed to battle back and created several scoring chances but were unable to find the back of the net. Bryan scored their second tally at the 55-minute mark off another set piece. A scramble in front of the goal ended with a shot somehow finding its way through the defense and just across the line. The Comets gave a valiant effort against a very good opponent.
Coach Iwaszkowiec commented, “I was proud of the way our guys battled. I think we earned some respect tonight. We surprised a lot of people with our effort and intensity. Most people thought this game was going to be a blowout. Bradley Greer made some fantastic saves to keep us in the match and with a little luck we could have gone into the half tied at 1-1. Overall I was very pleased with our performance and think we ‘grew up’ today as a team.”
