International Students Admissions Requirements

International students are welcome to apply for admission to Crichton College. International students are individuals who are not citizens or permanent residents* (resident alien status) of the United States. Prospective International students must submit to the following criteria in order to be reviewed for acceptance to Crichton College:

1. An application: An application may be submitted one of two ways. It may be completed and submitted online through the Crichton College website or may completed on paper and submitted to the Office of Admissions, by mail or fax.

2. Transcripts: Official copies of all transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Admissions. All documents must be in English, and be accompanied by an evaluation from an approved international transcript evaluation service. The minimum equivalent to a US GPA requirement is a 2.0.

3. The score report of the American College Testing program (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): The score report is a required part of the admission process and should be no more than three years old at the time of enrollment. Students over the age of 25 will not be required to submit an ACT score, but may opt to take the ACT as an admission requirement.
The ACT is the college’s preferred test type. A minimum composite score of 19 on the ACT (or comparable 900 combined critical reading and math on the SAT) is highly recommended for regular admission.

Note: All ACT scores submitted from tests completed prior to the October 1989 National Test will be converted to Enhanced ACT Scores by the ACT National Office or the Office of Admissions at Crichton College. A table showing ACT scores and the conversion score on the Enhanced ACT is available in the Admissions Office.

4. Proof of English Proficiency: All international applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Minimum scores of 500 written/ 173 computer/ and 61 internet based tests are required.

5. Proof of financial responsibility: Prospective international students must submit financial proof for one academic year’s expenses. This amount will be determined during the admissions process for each individual student and includes but is not limited to tuition, housing, meal plan, books, insurance and miscellaneous expenses. This requirement is to prove that international applicants intend to be enrolled full time and that employment is not needed to cover expenses.

6. Health Insurance: International students are required to submit proof of health insurance that will cover them for a minimum of twelve months while studying in the United States.

7. A personal essay: The applicant personal essay is a requirement for admissions and cannot be waived. It should be no more than a 750 word essay describing one major goal you have for your life. The essay should be typed and double spaced.

8. A non-refundable application fee of $25.00 (this fee is waived if the application is completed on-line.) This fee can be paid by mailing a check or money order or paid online with a credit card.

9. Any additional items and information requested of the applicant by the Office of Admissions.

An applicant cannot be reviewed for acceptance and will not be issued an I-20 until ALL of the application requirements are completed to the satisfaction of the Office of Admissions at Crichton College.

*Students who have obtained their permanent residency card must submit a copy of their permanent residency card along with all of the requirements for regular admission as a freshman or transfer student.
All students are expected to pledge to demonstrate respect for the philosophy of the college in words and behavior in the classroom.
