MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

The Crichton College Department of Education seeks to enable
both traditional and non-traditional students to become competent
beginning teachers, developing professionals, and effective decision
makers within the context of a Christian worldview.

TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM (TEP)

The Crichton College Teacher Education Program is approved by the Tennessee Board of Education and is authorized to make definitive recommendations for state licensure. In accordance with Title II of the Higher Education Act (2000), Crichton College reports a pass rate of 100% on the licensure examinations required by the State of Tennessee for school year 2004-2005. This compares
favorably with the 96% overall pass rate for the State of Tennessee. During this period, there were (161) students in the program. A key element in the program is the requirement that students complete (600) hours of student teaching before being recommended for a regular license. During student teaching, the student is observed and given feedback by a college faculty member and a cooperating teacher in the school setting. The ratio of one college faculty member for approximately seven (7) student teachers ensures a quality experience for students.

PHASES OF THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM (TEP)

The following structural elements constitute the delivery model for the Teacher Education Program:
Phase One: Pre-Professional Studies
Phase Two: Professional Studies and Experiences
Phase Three: Student Teaching or Initial Teaching Experience
Phase Four: Professional Practice
